Pain is always real and should never been dismissed.

Some people feel a tremendous amount of pain even though nothing seems to be wrong with their body.

Some people feel no pain, even though scans reveal traumatic injuries.

Why?

Our most recent understanding of pain is that the brain creates pain when it doesn’t feel safe, as a warning sign to us.

And it takes many, many variables in account. Not just the actual damage in our tissues.

Where you are, your beliefs about pain, your gender, your happiness at work… all of this and more will contribute to the amount of pain you’re experiencing.

It’s a complex issue, but learning about it helps us gain some sense of control back.

Knowing how pain works is even considered a form of therapy!
