According to recent research, the best way to gain flexibility in a muscle is to:

  • Hold a stretch
  • For at least 1 minute
  • 5 times per week

And the interesting thing is that you don’t get much more flexible if you hold it for more than 1 minute!

When it comes to stretching, frequency is more important than intensity. And it makes sense: you wouldn’t expect to have minty-fresh breath if you brushed your teeth only once for 15 minutes every week 🥴

In other words, if you’re going to yoga once a week and don’t do any stretching the rest of the time, you’re robbing yourself of some serious flexibility gainzzz.
