You can control your breath.

Now, anxiety is a beast, and I’m not suggesting you can cure anxiety with the power of your breath only.

But it can stop the spiralling, and that might be enough to give you a sense of control and confidence, if only for a moment.

If you breathe the way a relaxed person breathes, your brain assumes you are relaxed. Your heart rate and your blood pressure lower.

Your body becomes relaxed and your mind follows.

You can’t control your anxious thoughts, but you can trick your brain into not producing as many of them.

My favourite breathing method to counter anxiety is the 4-7-8.

Head there to give it a try.
